Music Video Ideas:

 

Au Revoir Simone- Somebody Who

We all really want to emulate the style of this performance music video, the sweeping and panning shots of the large mansion locationalongside the soft 'dream like' lighting all work exceptionally well together and create a really sophisticated music video that is in fact a fairly simple performance video.

 

 

Song Ideas:

 

MSMR- Hurricane

We like this 'found footage' video as it is different to most music videos within this genre of music, most go by the genre characteristics of a narrative and performance style, so we like how this video is different to what we already found.

 

 MSMR- Think Of You

We really like the style of this video because it is so unusual, it uses found footage, performance and narrative shots and combining all of these makes a great music video that is different to what is already out there. We all like the fast pace editing and jump cuts that work well with the pace of the song. Having the lyrics feature on screen in some of the performance was also another post-production editing technique that we all really like as a group.

MSMR- Fantasy

This is our least favourite out of all the MSMR songs, it is fairly sombre lyrics wise and we didn't really like the narrative story that is used in the video; especially the use of cheerleaders and a stereotypical American diner, it is all a bit too 'obvious' for us.

 

MSMR- Bones

This was another MSMR song that we all love as a group, the lyrics are interesting and we love the electro/synthy beat throughout the track, however we  also feel that it is a little 'sombre' and slow paced compared to Hurricane for example.

Haim- Falling

Haim are an indie rock/pop girl band, we all really like this song from a personal music taste view but we don't think that the genre or style of the song is what we want our band to be like, we want a more electronic/synth pop song and band rather than an indie rock/pop girlband. We also don't really like the style of the music video very much, the dance moves, costumes and lighting work really well for Haim and their 'boho/grunge' image but not for what we want our indie synth/pop band to be like.

 

CHVRCHES- The Mother We Share

We all love this song, the electronic/synth beat and the females vocals are very similar to what we want our band to emulate. However we aren't very keen on the largely narrative music video that only features some performance shots, we would rather have more of a performance style, than a narrative style music video.

London Grammar- Metal & Dust

 London Grammar are again a band that we all like from a personal music taste perspective, however we don't think that their 'folky' style will suit our electronic/synth style band very well at all.

 

MØ- Waste Of Time

We all love this track, we love the beat, pace and the electronic/alternative style to the artist. However, this song only features one female vocalist that makes the artist MO so there would be no place for a male, whereas we want our band to be a boy/girl duo, therefore this song would not work with our ideas.

 

When initially sitting down as a group we were drawn to the indie/alternative pop genre and all the other genres that stem off from that e.g. synth pop. We the looked at the artists and bands that fell into this genre of music and this is where we selected the above songs & music video. As you can see we have posted four songs by MSMR, we really like this indie/synth pop duo as their songs all feature the unusual, dark and eery echos of the main vocalist that are unlike any of the bands in the charts at the moment, we also felt as a group that we could easily put together a boy/girl duo by using the same band as I used in my AS Media Studies coursework (INFLUXX).
